Do you want to be a thought leader?

Then you’ve got to be active on LinkedIn.

And what’s the best way of being active on the platform?

By posting.

Here’s the thing, we all know that there are different post types on LinkedIn that are more engaging than text posts, video for instance can do wonders for you.

But creating media isn’t always easy and text posts have a track record of outperforming their more dynamic counterparts.

That’s why we decided to make the process easier.

In this guide, you’ll be generating LinkedIn text posts with ChatGPT in no time at all.

Can I Start Generating Posts Right Away?

That depends.

Are you primed to handle all that engagement?

Before going on a LinkedIn rampage, you need to get your foundation down.

This includes ensuring that your profile is optimized so that it can act as a landing page for prospects who want to find out more about you.

The worst thing that can happen with this prompt is that you get a couple of great posts out but have no plans with the audience that you’ve built.

So make sure you get the fundamentals down.

A Quick Caveat: What is This For?

This is not our only prompt for generating content on LinkedIn. It’s one of the many prompts that we’re currently developing to make sure we have specific prompts for different pain points.

This particular prompt deals with generating regular plain text posts, as long as you can customize it to fit your needs properly.

The Prompt for Generating LinkedIn Content with ChatGPT

This post requires a lot of customization to get right, but once you have your details down, all you need to do is change your topic every now and then.

So here it goes:

I am a*what do you do for a living* and I am active on LinkedIn. My audience is primarily *characteristics of your audience*.

I want to write an inspiring and *tone of the post* post on LinkedIn about *the topic that you want the plain text post to be about*.

Briefly touch on how I once *add an interesting anecdote here that is linked to your topic, it needs to be something personal that makes you think about the topic*.

The beginning should be engaging enough to draw the reader to the post – use a one-liner in the first sentence that hooks them in. The end should have a call-to-action, that encourages the reader.

The text shouldn’t sound too cheesy, but rather focus on building a narrative.

Make sure that you use short sentences with no more than three sentences per paragraph. Keep the post to*add your word count here* words, and follow LinkedIn’s guidelines. Structure the paragraphs well so that the sentence length looks visually appealing. Feel free to use one sentence per paragraph. Don’t use emojis. *You can choose to have them, sometimes ChatGPT doesn’t listen to this instruction though!*

Provide me with *number of* variations of the post and hashtags that I can use that are relevant to my post, profession or audience.

Okay, now it’s time for us to break down this prompt.

First, we give it a lot of context so it knows who we are and who we are writing to, this helps with ChatGPT’s alignment and adds this to its overall objectives, allowing it to tweak the writing properly.

Next up we have the actual final instruction, which is to write a post on LinkedIn for us. Add the subject of the post, you can be as clear or as general as you want. In here, you can add the tone that you would like to use. We left “inspiring” in there but you can change that out if you want to.

We then add some meat to the post, by referencing an anecdote or a story that can run parallel to the overall thought that you have.

And then move to an overview of the structure, we need something that can hook readers, so we added some BAMF-ied notes in there.

Sometimes ChatGPT can get cheesy, we gave a literal instruction for it not to be – readers don’t like that.

Now we talk about word counts and specific limitations to make sure that we’re getting exactly what we asked for.

Finally, we end with some hashtags and last notes for ChatGPT to do its job like a pro.

The Output

Even we were surprised with the output because it honestly works!

Using our standard prefilled template, this is what we got.

I am a LinkedIn marketer and I am active on LinkedIn. My audience is primarily entrepreneurs.

I want to write an inspiring and motivational post on LinkedIn about “customer service is important”.

Briefly touch on how I once chose to forego charging my usual rate for a client because I truly believed that I was investing in them.

Keep the post to 250 words, and follow LinkedIn’s guidelines. Structure the paragraphs well so that the sentence length looks visually appealing. Feel free to use one sentence per paragraph. Don’t use emojis.

Provide me with 4 variations of the post and hashtags that I can use that are relevant to my post, profession or audience.

Now tell me.

Doesn’t that look better than half of the posts that we see out there?

Takeaways

We’re still not done.

You see, no matter how good these posts are, it still helps if you edit them to suit your own style.

Take a look at your old posts and make sure that your newly generated ones align in the same way.

If you’re feeling brave, use this as a jump-off point for inspiration to create your own posts.

Also, play around with the prompt, try to get yourself a mix of longer and shorter ones to keep the messaging varied!

As always, make this prompt your own, and feel free to provide ChatGPT with as many details as possible.

Stay Golden!
