LinkedIn picture frames – and other social media profile frames – add quite a bit of character to your account.

They let you showcase some of your advocacies and help you stand out.

But, here’s the problem with LinkedIn.

They only provide you with two frames.

Don’t worry we got you covered.

Today, I’ll show you how to create a LinkedIn picture frame in less than then minutes and how you can use the template as the basis for your other social media picture frames.

Trust me, it’s actually pretty simple and it’ll help your LinkedIn marketing!

By the way, you can use this guide for picture frames on other social media networks, too!

What’s the Use of a Social Media Picture Frame?

A social media picture frame allows you to add a little bit of text or branding to your profile photo.

They’re immensely popular on Facebook and soon a lot of people started picking them up.

We’ve seen their use in social advocacies, political support, events, and at times, branding.

Although they’re not really designed for permanent use, they’re a great way to show your support for a current event or something that you care deeply about.

They’re a great way to add a little character to your profile photo without having to switch it out for a new one or make drastic changes to your profile.

Default LinkedIn Picture Frames

LinkedIn actually has picture frames.

And, they’re pretty easy to access.

All you have to do is to head over to your LinkedIn account and view your profile.

Once you’re there, click on your current profile photo.

This should open a small window, now click on “Frames”.

You’ll see that they have two frames available.

One is #Hiring and the next is #OpenToWork.

The assumption is that since is LinkedIn is the biggest professional social media platform, most of its presence is focused on hiring or the like.

These frames make it easier for potential recruiters or people looking for a job to find what they need.

However, it doesn’t really help people who want to showcase something else with their social media frame.

That’s why we move to the most important part of this guide…

Here’s how to create sales scripts that work!

How to Create a LinkedIn Picture Frame?

Method 1 – Word Frame

The easiest picture frame to make is a word frame.

These are picture frames that have a phrase bordering a profile photo.

You can use a free photo-editing application like Canva to do this.

First, you want to log into Canva and create a custom canvas. At the bare minimum, it should be 400 x 400 pixels, a perfect square.

The more pixels you add the more details you can work with and you can play with better resolutions, however, pixel height and pixel width must match.

Most social media platforms, including LinkedIn, display your profile photo in a cropped circle, so by using a square it’s easier for you to crop into your picture frame when you upload later on.

Also, it helps with creating your design.

Once you’ve created a blank canvas, upload a photo that you want to use as a LinkedIn profile photo, Canva lets you drag and drop straight into their web app.

Next, click on “Text” in the left-hand menu pane and add some text.

Once you’re done typing, click on the three dots on the upper right hand side, click on “Effects”, and then “Curve”.

Now, you want to select the curved text, you’ll see a circle form that acts as your guide, you to want move this circular guide to the topmost part of your canvas, make sure it’s also in the center – you’ll know because Canva snaps to grid.

Go back to the menu on the lefthand side and increase or decrease the slider until the circular guide fills up all four sides of the canvas. Make sure a side of the circle is touching, or close to touching, the sides of your square.

Now, that you’ve got the curve that you’re looking for, you can now adjust the size of your text.

Move it closer to your image.

And, voila, you’re done!

You can now add a little color if you want, a little symbol on the other side, or other graphical elements of your choice.

Simply download your creation off of Canva and it’s time to upload it on LinkedIn.

You’ll see that once I’ve uploaded the photo, it will automatically crop straight into a circle and the entire word frame is in place.

It takes less than 10 minutes to do and there are a lot of variations that you can try.

Method 2 – Full Frame

If you want to add a full-frame, you follow the same steps as above and start with a blank canvas that’s perfectly square.

Next, you want to search for “Shapes” in the “Elements” menu on the right-hand side.

Ideally, you want to pick any shape that’s circular in nature or one that can fit neatly into a circle.

(Yes, that orange icosagon – 20-sided badge-looking shape on top of the circle – can do, too.)

Place the circle on the far corner of the canvas, and drag it all the way to the other end. In this example, we put it on the upper left-hand corner and dragged it all the way to the lower right.

The circle should fill the entire square canvas.

Next, go back to “Elements” on the right-hand menu and type in “frame”.

This should give you a list of frames that you can use.

Again, pick any shape that can fit nicely into a circle. In this case, we chose an actual circle.

Shrink the size of the frame until it fits inside the initial solid-colored circle. This “donut” will now form your frame, just adjust the size of the frame until you get your desired thickness.

Go to the right-hand pane and click on text.

Just like Method 1, add some text.

Click on the three dots on the upper right-hand side and then hit “Effects”.

Choose “Curve”.

Refer to the steps in Method 1 on how to adjust the curve to perfectly fit your square canvas.

Now fit the text into that wonderful donut that you previously created. Remember, to use the circle and the snap to grid feature as a guide to make sure everything is nice and aligned.

You can even click on the rotate button to move the text around the circle. I recommend moving it a couple of degrees to the left or right. You don’t want the text directly above or below your headshot, it looks a little unnatural if you ask me.

Add a little color to make things pop!

Upload a photo onto the “Uploads” area of Canva and drag that photo towards the circular frame. It should snap into place with the “donut” as your border.

Click on “Save photo” and you’re good to go!

Method 3 – Use a Canva Template

Method 3 is the easiest one to pull off because it relies on you using a Canva template.

What you want to do is to log into your Canva account and look for “Facebook Profile Frames”.

However, most of them already run a particular theme and if you want more you’ve got to have a paid account on the platform.

As of the time of this writing, we found that a majority of the free templates available have elements that are watermarked and need to be unlocked with an actual account on the platform.

That sucks, I know.

Can I Use Another App for My Social Media Picture Frame?

Sure, you can!

Popular applications like Photoshop or Illustrator will give you a greater degree of creativity when it comes to your social media picture frame.

However, we used Canva in this example because it’s one of the easiest creative apps that you can use and it’s available to everyone with a computer and internet.

You can even copy your profile photo with a picture frame on Facebook and upload it on LinkedIn if you want some uniformity.

What To Do After Posting My New Social Media Picture Frame

Treat your new LinkedIn picture frame as a piece of new content or as an event!

If you’re using it to promote something new in your company or a certain social issue, you can write a post to go along with the new frame.

You can even syndicate a series of posts so that you can theme out your next batch of content on the platform!

If you get the buzz starting, you’ll surely have a friend or two who’ll be curious as to how you got your picture frame, so invite them to use it and spread the love.

Since Canva allows you to share designs with other people, you can share your picture frame design and get friends to make their own easily – with the alternative being you make them a frame of their own ?.

This allows you to spread your custom messaging all around LinkedIn and increases your marketing surface area if you’re running a campaign at the same time.

Takeaways

Social media picture frames are a great add-on to your profile every now and then.

They allow you to show your support for advocacy or feature some branding temporarily.

And, this helps mix it up a little bit with your LinkedIn updates.

Fresh ideas like this help stir up a little buzz for your profile and that helps with your overall branding on the platform.

In case people get really curious, you can always share this article with them and get them on board!
