On-page optimization is one of the most critical aspects of your SEO-optimization campaign because it tells SERPs that your page is relevant to the search that your prospects are entering on Google.

However, on-page optimization – no matter how easy it is for experienced marketers, can be a little time-consuming, especially since you need to create elements that are not only optimized for search engines but also for humans.

That’s where we have AI to help us out.

In today’s guide, we take a look at how to do on-page optimization with ChatGPT.

Why On-Page Optimization?

On-page optimization forms the backbone of a lot of the SEO work that you can do for your website because it relates to optimizing each page for both your niche and SERPs (search engine results pages). Whether it be on Google, Bing, or another site, they still follow the same guiding principles.

Make each page relevant to your niche and easily accessible by your prospect, so that crawlers can easily identify your page and give it a leg up in the results pages.

The Limitations of Our Prompt

Our prompt is very powerful, but it is not 100 percent.

Here’s the thing.

ChatGPT is limited.

It’s not an entire service nor an assistant that can pull information for you online – yes GPT 4 exists but it’s not super ready for complicated tasks such as on-page optimization.

On-page optimization doesn’t just cover things to input in certain boxes, but also complicated procedures such as designing your page, optimizing it for other search engine ranking factors, or internal linking.

The prompt we designed, can only help with some aspects of on-page such as:

  • Your title tags
  • Meta descriptions
  • Header tags
  • Examples of photos you can use
  • alt-text
  • Schema
  • URL structure
  • Broader keywords and LSIs

It won’t be able to do much in terms of:

  • SILOing
  • External linking
  • Helping with mobile friendliness
  • Adding other elements
  • etc.

However, given what it can do, it’s safe to say that is powerful enough to do a lot of the heavy lifting for you.

How to Do On-Page Optimization with ChatGPT: The Prompt

Our prompt is rather simple.

I *what do you do* for *what does your website cater to*, I need to do on-page optimization for a page on my website.

Here are my details

Company name:

Page is about:

Keyword:

I require the following:

A possible URL structure – give me 8 variations

Schema markup code I can use

Please follow this checklist:

Try to keep the keyword in the front of my URL and title tag

Make sure the meta description includes the keyword and is engaging enough for users to click on

Provide me with other tips for on-page optimization that are relevant to this page

So let’s break down the prompt a little bit.

If you want to learn how to do on-page optimization with ChatGPT or anything with the tool in general, you have to start with a little context.

Context helps ChatGPT provide some alignment to make sure its output aligns with the overall theme of your website.

Next, you want to provide specific details, we went with the basics that need to be filled out in on-page optimization which is your domain name, company name, what the page is about, and keyword.

Then, we hit it up with the actual request.

We asked for multiple page titles and meta descriptions so that you have plenty to choose from. For header tags, we asked for more because depending on how long your content is, you might need a few more tags to make the content pop.

For images and graphics, the request here is more of suggestions for what media to use so you wouldn’t need to expend resources looking for specific types of media.

The keyword research here is basic, so don’t expect it to have volume. However, what it will do is to make the text more relevant to SERPs by including synonyms.

Lastly, we asked for some schema, now there is still a lot you can do with schema, but this should be enough basis for you to get your structured data game on point with just a couple of edits.

The Results of The Prompt

Here’s the exact prompt that we used.

Takeaways & Caveats

Our prompt might be pretty powerful, but it still should be used as a tool for the parts that need to be written down. It does not cover aspects such as SILO (site internal linking optimization), site speed optimization, mobile optimization, etc.

Also, you still need to check your work after ChatGPT generates an output.

SEO optimization is a complicated field and requires a lot of technical, UX/UI, and copywriting skills.

Please remember that leveraging ChatGPT for SEO will not replace traditional SEO services or professionals who specialize in on-page optimization.

SEO takes a lot of hard work with a lot of professionals spending years in the field earning their chops before they’re recognized.

AI might be great but it’s only as great as the person leveraging it.
