Engagement is critical on any social media platform.

Especially on LinkedIn.

Being able to engage with people’s posts allows you to stay top of mind, appear active, and establish relationships.

However, coming up with thoughtful comments several times a day can become creatively taxing.

That’s where AI-assisted comment generation comes in handy.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to write LinkedIn comments with ChatGPT and even craft replies.

The Importance of LinkedIn Comments

LinkedIn comments are critical because they help with networking.

The more you engage with other professionals, the more you come off as an active member of the community. However, you can’t just comment for the sake of commenting, you need to provide insights, show support, or provide an opinion.

This helps you build your reputation as a thought leader on the platform.

Thought leaders often comment to drive discussions and assist the conversation. As their moniker suggests, they “lead the way” …even if it’s just on comment threads.

Commenting helps build relationships, if you have a prospect that you want to engage or nurture, commenting is a great way to stay top-of-mind and serve as a natural way to start a conversation.

A well-placed comment will help give you an excuse to communicate directly with the poster, e.g. comment now, have them react, and then message a few hours later.

Furthermore, you need to remember that comments are also a way to build engagement and amplify the post. So the more comments a post gets, the more likely it is to be shown to more people.

And this applies, to the comments you’re getting.

You need to reply to them.

The Prompt (The Basic)

Our basic prompt, like all our other ChatGPT prompts is intuitive. It contains an introduction to who you are, what you want ChatGPT to do, and its limitations.

In fact, it’s so simple to use, that it’s pretty much one of our shortest prompts.

Here it is:

I am a *what do you do for a living*.

Help me write a comment that *what your reaction* of/to this LinkedIn post: “”

The tone has to be  *tone to be used* and limited to 30 words [you can change this].

Okay so let’s break this down.

I am a *what do you do for a living*.

This is your introduction, it helps set the stage for ChatGPT to get feel of what perspective it should be writing its comment.

Help me write a comment that *what your reaction* to this LinkedIn post: “”

What is your reaction to the post? Do you feel positive? Do you want to show support? Are you against it?

This will set the viewpoint of the comment. The next part is adding the post itself, this allows ChatGPT to properly assess what it is replying to.

The tone has to be  *tone to be used* and limited to 30 words [you can change this].

Again, as common with all our prompts, we add tonality.

Not all organizations are formal and not everyone follows the same voice, by tweaking this you can add your own twist to the reply.

We add a limitation of 30 words, that should be enough for it to feel genuine. We don’t advise that you increase or decrease this.

When should this prompt be used?

This prompt should be used if you just want to post up a simple comment. Think of it as a “comment and forget” prompt that helps you create comments en masse without having to worry about replies.

If you want to build engagement instead try this…

The Prompt 2.0 (The Engagement Master)

I am a *what do you do for a living*.

Help me write a comment that *what your reaction* and drives discussion to this LinkedIn post: “”

The tone has to be *tone to be used* and limited to 30 words [you can change this].

Notice we just added one line.

“and drives discussion to this LinkedIn Post”

But this simple line addition now also makes your comment engaging by stimulating discussion through the use of questions after the comment.

When in doubt, we recommend that you use prompt 2.0.

Writing Replies?

What happens if they reply to you?

Simple.

Go back to the conversation you had with ChatGPT and paste their reply there using this prompt:

They replied back with: “”

Come up with an engaging reply.

This is what it looks like in action.

If you can’t find your old conversation with ChatGPT or if it’s lost, you can simply utilize this prompt:

Someone posted this on LinkedIn:

*the post*

I commented:

*your comment*

They replied with:

*their reply*

Come up with an engaging reply.

Let’s see it in action.

You’ll notice that there is a slight variation to the generated reply in this case, but that’s perfectly fine. You can always add a limiter like the number of words you want it to generate.

If you find that you do not like the initial comment or reply, you have the option to ask it to generate a few more variations.

Sometimes we just ask it to give us 15-20 replies straight up to make our lives easier and so that we have a few to choose from.

You can bake this into your prompts by adding a simple line such as, “generate 20 variations”.

Takeaways on How to Write LinkedIn Comments with ChatGPT

As always, we will advise you to add your own little touches to your ChatGPT prompts. Your perspectives, insights, and personal tweaks will help create that unique voice to generate content.

This allows you to create more personalized content that is right for your specific audience.

That’s what matters the most.

There is no use replying to people, if what you’re putting out does not resonate with them.

Remember the quality of comments and replies should always take precedence over the number of replies. The more context you give ChatGPT the better it works.

Stay golden!
