ICPs, segmentation, and positioning are just the beginning.

Do you know what’s the real challenge?

Trying to connect with a potential prospect in their space.

Sometimes typing that initial LinkedIn connection request message is the hardest part.

In today’s guide, we’ll show you how to write LinkedIn connection request messages with ChatGPT and take your networking to the next level.

Why Did We Build This Prompt?

We’ve all – at one point – felt a pit in our stomach, when faced with this particular popup from LinkedIn:

And, the truth is, I sometimes also have my moments.

There are times when templates might not seem to cut it, you might have a serious case of writer’s block, or you just feel as if you need a good jump-off point.

You spend what seems to be ages trying to come up with something nice and witty to say, and before you know it, you decided to just cancel and skip the LinkedIn connection request message altogether.

But don’t do that.

Sending connection requests – especially to people who don’t know you – without some precursor – isn’t going to land you a good connection request rate.

People tend to reject requests from people that they don’t know.

If you want them to accept, you have better give them a good explanation as to why you would want to connect with them.

So we decided to move forward and create a BAMF ChatGPT prompt that can help all of us power through.

How to Write LinkedIn Connection Request Messages with ChatGPT: The Prompt

Our prompt looks like this:

I am a *what do you do for a living* with a strong following of *who is your audience* LinkedIn. I primarily use LinkedIn *what you use LinkedIn for*. I need *number of variations* potential LinkedIn connection request messages for someone who is in *the space that the person is in* and could eventually be *what do you want your relationship with them to develop to*.

The LinkedIn connection messages have to be:

-non-sales related

-short and witty

-polite and respectful

-professional but light

-inviting and engaging enough for the person to want to accept the LinkedIn connection request

*Optional next section; if you have something in common*

Here are the things we have in common, they can be used in some of the output variations if deemed necessary:

The technique in engineering hyper-effective prompts is providing ChatGPT with as much context as possible. And this is more so the case with this particular prompt because you’re trying to build a connection with another person who doesn’t know.

By providing plentiful context, you can make sure that ChatGPT can deliver a specific theme in your outputs and it gives it leeway to generate different variations that are specific to your needs.

The next part of effective prompts is providing the tool with limitations and stipulations, whether it be the tone that you want to use or how you want to approach the prospect.

Do note that you can change any of these parameters if you choose to do so depending on the voice that you maintain on the platform.

We often advise that you make as many tweaks as possible to make the prompts yours.

We also added an “optional” section, its goal is to try and build common ground with your prospects. Now this is optional since there are times when you and a prospect might not share immediate commonality as described by their profiles.

Yes, we know it’s long, but let’s take a look at the results we got.

Testing Out the Outputs and Results

We went with this particular prompt and no other optional information:

I am a digital marketer with a strong following of startup founders on LinkedIn. I primarily use LinkedIn to connect with colleagues and to sell my consultancy services. I need 10 potential LinkedIn connection request messages for someone who is in B2B healthcare and could eventually be interested in my services.

The LinkedIn connection messages have to be:

-non-sales related

-short and witty

-polite and respectful

-professional but light

-inviting and engaging enough for the person to want to accept the LinkedIn connection request

This might be enough for a lot of marketers out there, but we felt like we needed more.

We tried a different variation incorporating the optional field.

This:

Here are the things we have in common, they can be used in some of the output variations if deemed necessary:

-we worked in the same industry in the past, now we don’t

– we both have a common connection

The results were even more personalized.

Yes, there are a lot of emojis, but you can always strip those out and make your adjustments with the main prompt itself.

For example, you can switch out the prompt to be extremely professional, or you could tell it in the optional field that you and the prospect have met in the past.

The customization options are endless as long as you can provide ChatGPT with enough background to produce different variations.

Takeaways

Don’t forget that you can tweak this prompt as much as you want.

The more you do the better.

As usual with all of our prompts at BAMF, we wanted to offer you a disclaimer.

These prompts might be auto-magically personalized to mention their favorite color, but they won’t be as effective as you jumping in and giving it a couple of tweaks after you generate them.

At the end of the day, this is still a tool, and you have to treat it as such.

Yes, we don’t disagree that it can churn out as many LinkedIn connection requests as you would want it to, but if you wanted to learn how to write LinkedIn connection request messages with ChatGPT, the best way to do it would be by using it as a springboard.

The human touch is always going to have a different sway over humans.

Trust us.
