If you want to guarantee your success, start with your ideal customer profiles.

Apart from developing your product or service, and building your funnels and journeys, it’s one of the most fundamental aspects of your whole marketing endeavor.

And most marketers start here for a reason.

It defines, how you’ll go about marketing and selling your solution.

The thing is, building ICPs can get difficult.

And that’s what our team over at BAMF aimed to fix.

In today’s guide, we’ll show you our ultimate prompt for ideal customer profiles using ChatGPT. You can use this for your LinkedIn outreach, cold outreach, and pretty much your entire rollout.

There’s a lot of good stuff in here today.

What’s in an Ideal Customer Profile?

Everything.

We’re not even kidding.

In order for marketers and founders like us to be able to truly understand our customers, we need to be able to read them well and get into their heads.

And, that starts with getting to know every aspect of how they operate so that we can determine what types of behavioral nudges motivate them to act.

While we’re not discounting that demographics play a huge part in determining specific channels that we should be using and the theme of our content, we need to look further and examine their motivations.

This means taking a look at things such as their challenges, opportunities for them to grow, their concerns and pain points, and their aspirations.

It allows us a more holistic view of our potential prospects and buyers, and helps us connect with them as people.

And, that’s critical.

The more we get to know them, the easier it is for us to understand them.

And, the more we understand them, the easier it is to build a relationship with them.

On the plus side allows sales and marketing to align their efforts – which is always great news as your organization scales.

Prompt for Ideal Customer Profiles

Our prompt today is pretty long, and that’s because it’s extensive.

We wanted to cover not just your run-of-the-mill demographics and pain points, but also psychographics and opportunities. This allows us to get to know our prospects more and leverage the profiles for personalization – which is extremely useful if you’re using methods such as ABM in your marketing.

Here’s what it looks like:

I’m a *what do you do for a living* who is selling a *product/service* that *what does it do*

Here are other details of the service:

– *detail about the product/service*

– *detail about the product/service*

– *detail about the product/service*

My USP is *what is your USP*. My *product/service* starts at *pricing*

I need to create *number* comprehensive ideal customer profiles. Be very specific about the details you provide.

These should include the following:

– job and industry information

– demographics

– psychographics

– challenges and pain points

– goals and aspirations

– technological proficiencies

– opportunities

– content I should use to reach them

– channels they’re on

The prompt starts with some context on yourself, to show ChatGPT what you specialize in.

We then move on to the context of the product or service you’re selling, you want to give it a quick executive summary, and then work your way into three – or more – highly specific details of what you offer.

Be detailed with these points.

Next up, include your USP and your sample pricing, this helps ChatGPT eliminate particular profiles that might not be able to afford your services. We added this part to give you some form of lead qualification right off the bat.

We then go straight into the prompt proper.

I highly advise that you generate at least 5 ideal customer profiles and even move that number up to 10. You don’t want to do too much though at once. you can always ask it to generate some more for you.

We covered most of the details you’ll need for an ideal customer profile so you should be set.

However, feel free to ask it to expand on these particular profiles should you find one of them interesting. As a language model, you can even ask questions to push for more information and that’s how you can leverage the initial prompt even further.

Now once you’re done filling all of this out, double check what you have and hit that enter button!

Sample Output

For our sample output, we went with a standard profile that we had in mind selling generic services, in this way, we could test if the prompt worked well – which it did …being a BAMF-engineered one.

Let’s take a look:

I’m a digital marketer that is selling a service that automates my clients’ lead generation.

Here are other details of the service:

– it includes appointment setting

– it’s hassle-free

– we can deploy quickly

My USP is that clients don’t need to do anything. My services start at USD 2,000 a month.

Takeaways

At this point, the latter should be easier since we just gave you the prompt for ideal customer profiles.

Looking at ICPs helps you understand your prospects as people, rather than buyers.

And that’s what’s important.

You need to understand the person.

It’s the first step to building a connection.

(Also, please don’t forget to validate your outputs, just because it’s smart there are instance where it can make mistakes.)
