It’s alright to be stuck.

Sometimes finding the right topic to write about isn’t always easy.

And that’s where ChatGPT can come along and change your entire process.

Content ideation can get complex, but if you want to grab a couple of content ideas or throw a specific subject around AI is here to help you out.

In today’s guide, we’ll teach you how to use ChatGPT for content ideation so you can flesh out your ideas and come up with new ones regardless if you’re stuck, doing a little topic research, or planning your content strategy.

What’s the Use Case for this Prompt?

The goal of this prompt is idea generation.

This comes in helpful in two scenarios.

When you’re planning out content for a long stretch of time or brainstorming topics to use for the present in an article you’re writing.

Usually, any brainstorming session starts with the generation of general ideas, and that’s why we built the prompt.

To make sure you can get a steady thought stream going before you start getting into specifics.

How to Use ChatGPT for Content Ideation: The Primary Prompt

As usual with any BAMF-powered prompt, we started with context before providing any instructions to ChatGPT.

Context allows you to provide ChatGPT with specifics on how to run your prompt. This helps sets limitations and provides it with direct guidelines on how to produce its output.

I am a *who are you* and I write long-form articles and blog posts for an audience of *who is your audience*. I’m looking for actionable, interesting, and SEO-friendly article titles that will resonate with my readers. Please provide me with a list of *how many* compelling topics that are relevant to my audience and can help them achieve *what goals do they have?*

We will always advise that you tell ChatGPT to run at least 10 different things

Why?

Because why waste the opportunity to get a lot of ideas?

The goal of this prompt is idea generation, and the more ideas you have the better.

You can ask it to give you 10 or maybe even 50.

The choice is yours.

Next up we have an explanation of what we want ChatGPT to do.

We wanted it to be a little generalized so we made sure we kept the instructions broad and asked for audience relevancy.

Let’s see it in action.

The Output

Here’s the input we stuck into ChatGPT.

I am a digital marketer and I write long-form articles and blog posts for an audience of digital marketers and startup founders. I’m looking for actionable, interesting, and SEO-friendly article titles that will resonate with my readers. Please provide me with a list of 30 compelling topics that are relevant to my audience and can help them achieve their marketing goals

Here’s what we got.

Notice that we got a broad list of topics?

This is good, you now have a starting point.

However, the question now becomes…

“How Do I Dial In on One of These Topics?”

First of all, you pick one of the topics.

We chose topic 9. “Harnessing the Power of Video Marketing for Maximum Engagement”

Then we used this nifty little prompt:

Can you provide me with an expanded topic list of 20 topics for *name of topic*

And this is what we got.

Now imagine this, if you were to multiply those 30 topics into 20 subtopics, you’d have a pool of 600 different ideas to look at!

Now, how’s that for content topic ideation?

You can even take any one of the subtopics and apply the same prompt again to narrow things down.

Takeaways and Caveats

The goal of this prompt is to make sure that you have a general list of topics to draw inspiration from.

It is not a content plan.

You would still need to plot these topics down if you want to draw out a full plan.

Now, if you’ve been paying attention to our other guides you’ll find that by combining any one of these our other prompts can lead to even more content.

And that’s the goal of content domination.

You want to cover every nook and cranny and make sure that you are positioned to succeed.

As always, we want to remind you not to fully rely on AI for your content generation needs. Everything still needs a human touch!
