Your LinkedIn profile summary is quite possibly the longest piece of text you have to craft in your LinkedIn profile.

(If you’re not into one-liners on your profile summary – which we totally do not advise you to do.)

Sometimes, getting the right words in might seem a little difficult, but alas we have help.

Today, we’ll be learning how to use ChatGPT to optimize your LinkedIn profile summary.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

Your LinkedIn profile summary might not be the prettiest or most engaging part of your profile since it has the potential to be the most text-heavy, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have the potential to be converting.

Many will skip your summary to look at the rest of your profile.

However, you have to also keep this in mind.

A lot of serious prospects will still check out your about me summary and you want to be able to cater to them.

What Do You Need In Your LinkedIn Profile Summary?

We like splitting up a LinkedIn profile summaries into three parts, the intro, the middle/meat, and the ending.

The introduction should be a single sentence that engages the prospect and pushes them through to read the rest of what you have. Most of the time, we advise our clients to add a CTA there or some contact information not only for prospects who are skimming but also for people who need to contact you quickly off of LinkedIn.

The middle on the other hand should not be a cover letter, but rather highlight what you’ve done in the past in a way that communicates that the same value can be provided to your prospect.

And, you guessed it, the end needs a CTA and another mention of ways that they can communicate with you.

Now there are other little notes that you should follow such as keeping it short, writing shorter paragraphs to optimize for mobile, and the possible addition of emojis.

However, we can easily program all of that into your prompt when you use ChatGPT to optimize your LinkedIn profile summary.

How to Use ChatGPT to Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile Summary

The prompt we’ll be using is very simple, here it is:

I am a *what do you do* who wants to take my growth to the next level and *what do you want to achieve*. My audience is *who is your audience*

I need a catchy, *mood of your audience* and engaging LinkedIn profile summary that highlights the following details:

*add what you specialize in*

*what do you currently do*

*what does the company you work for do*

*add an achievement you have in another company*

*add an achievement that is yours*

*add a personal achievement that is yours*

This has to be written in English and fit LinkedIn’s profile summary character limit of 2000 characters.

Additionally, add the following details

Start it off with a bold statement that tells my prospects what I can do for them in one sentence

It has to be engaging

It has to be a maximum of five paragraphs

Keep the paragraphs short – around three sentences and optimized for mobile devices

Add a spot for a CTA for prospects to contact me either at the beginning or at the end

As you can see, the prompt is pretty simple because it tries to achieve a few things.

Let’s break it down for you.

I am a *what do you do* who wants to take my growth to the next level and *what do you want to achieve*. My audience is *who is your audience*

The first thing we do is tell ChatGPT who you are and who your audience is. You also tell it what your goals are, this is critical because you want to be on point with the purpose of your LinkedIn profile summary.

I need a catchy, *mood of your audience* and engaging LinkedIn profile summary that highlights the following details:

*add what you specialize in*

*what do you currently do*

*what does the company you work for do*

*add an achievement you have in another company*

*add an achievement that is yours*

*add a personal achievement that is yours*

Next, we start filling out the meat of the prompt, which are the details you want to be included.

Now you don’t have to stick by this list, you can add more if you wish or switch a couple of things out. However, this is the most general one we can give you.

Lastly, the little nitty-gritty details, now you can leave this as is, but you can also make tweaks to make it your own.

If you’re writing for a hyper-professional audience, we suggest that you also add “don’t use emojis” so that it can leave that stuff out.

Here’s a prompt we tried.

I am a LinkedIn Marketer who wants to take my growth to the next level and generate more sales. My audience is fun startup founders and growth marketers.

I need a catchy, fun and engaging LinkedIn profile summary that highlights the following details:

I specialize in LinkedIn optimization and sales

I am the head of growth for “XYZ startup”

XYZ startup provides digital marketing services, B2B lead generation and sales consulting

I previously worked for “ABC Company” and brought in 1 million in sales

I was featured in Forbes 30 Under 30

I am the author of the book called “Growth Hacking for You”

This has to be written in English and fit LinkedIn’s profile summary character limit of 2000 characters.

Additionally, add the following details

Start it off with a bold statement that tells my prospects what I can do for them in one sentence

It has to be engaging

It has to be a maximum of five paragraphs

Keep the paragraphs short – around three sentences and optimized for mobile devices

Add a spot for a CTA for prospects to contact me either at the beginning or at the end

Here are the results.

It Doesn’t Stop There

At BAMF, we will not advise you to ask for just one permutation of an answer.

The beauty of AI is that you can keep making it generate you a new one until you’re satisfied.

After that you can even throw in additional prompts to tweak the text such as adding more emojis, shortening some parts out, or even changing the language.

The choice is yours.

The goal here is to use AI to deal with the difficult parts and then tweak it with a human touch.

Takeaways on Using ChatGPT to Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile Summary
