PR outreach is pretty powerful.

Especially if you know how to leverage it.

A lot of marketers use it to collaborate with journalists, get product announcements out there and some even use it to get a couple of backlinks leading back to their site.

But, why don’t a lot of people do it?

Primarily because of two things.

You need to do the research and you need to create the copy.

This guide isn’t about doing the research, but we can definitely help you with the latter.

Today we take a look at how we can do LinkedIn PR outreach using ChatGPT!

PR outreach has been around for a long time.

It’s been leveraged extensively to create connections with journalists or the media.

Whether it’s to have a product announcement or ask a blogger to update their content using your information, there’s always a use case for PR outreach.

Additionally, you can:

  1. Promote an event
  2. Get brand exposure
  3. Ask for media coverage
  4. Help with crisis management
  5. Elevate your thought leadership
  6. Boost product launches
  7. Collaborate with the Media
  8. Conduct recruitment

And that’s just scratching the surface.

But here’s the thing.

People in the media are used to being bombarded with messages all the time, so creating copy for them can become difficult.

That’s why we built this prompt.

In just a couple of minutes and a few edits, you can have a prompt that can pierce through contact lists like butter.

Disclaimer: Please do your research beforehand, you need to know your specific goals with PR outreach, have a contact list ready, and already be connected with them on LinkedIn.

The Prompt for LinkedIn PR Outreach Using ChatGPT

Our prompt is pretty straightforward.

However, you do need to do some research beforehand.

I am a *your job title* who specializes in *what do you specialize in?*

Help me create a detailed LinkedIn message specifically designed for an audience of journalists and media outlets, that takes into account nuances of their profession.

It should contain the following in order:

– My interest in their last piece titled *the title of the last piece of content that they’ve published*

– The fact that they mentioned *a quote from that piece*

– We have upcoming news about our new *what is your offering and what does it do?*

Express eagerness to schedule a call or exchange messages on LinkedIn to discuss ideas and a possible collaboration further.

Keep the messaging light, *mood of the piece of writing*, and succinct.

Sign off cordially and respectfully. Keep it to 150 *feel free to change the number* words and don’t use emojis.

We start the prompt off with a description of who we are.

This allows ChatGPT to understand from whose perspective it will be writing and allows it to inject your expertise into the output. This is a critical step since every outreach message needs to start with an introduction to what you represent.

Next up we have the exact instructions to get it going and the audience that GPT will be writing to. We added a note for it to write for the nuances of the audience, this allows it to adapt to the profession of the journalists you want to reach out to,

Additionally, you can switch this out to feature just bloggers or just journalists.

We then get to the meat of the prompt, the content.

Here we focus on three things to get through the front door:

  1. The mention of something they did/wrote recently – shows that you follow them.
  2. The mention of something specific from their creation – shows that you read and understood the work
  3. What you have in mind – the purpose of you reaching out

After this, it’s time to add instructions to make the outreach friendly and to achieve our goal of keeping the conversation alive.

We added a couple of notes on tone and capped it all off with instructions on how to end the outreach.

I strongly advise that you keep your outreach message to just 150 words, anything longer would look better in an email and anything less might defeat the purpose. It’s also not enough words to make things overwhelming.

Let’s Take a Look at the Output

For the output, we decided to fill out the prompt with some of our default text coupled with some fun to check if it responds well.

And the results were both fun and effective.

This is what we used:

I am a LinkedIn marketer who specializes in digital marketing.

Help me create a detailed LinkedIn message specifically designed for an audience of journalists and media outlets, that takes into account nuances of their profession.

It should contain the following in order:

– My interest in their last piece titled “Astronauts and Digital Marketing”

– The fact that they mentioned “Digital marketing is the future”

– We have upcoming news about our new service “Digital Marketing in Space”

Express eagerness to schedule a call or exchange messages on LinkedIn to discuss ideas and a possible collaboration further.

Keep the messaging light, fun, and succinct.

Sign off cordially and respectfully. Keep it to 150 words and don’t use emojis.

This is what we got:

LinkedIn PR Outreach Using ChatGPT, LinkedIn PR Outreach Using ChatGPT: Reach Out in Minutes!

As you can see, ChatGPT does a great job of weaving the entire narrative together and forcing a connection.

Plus, it actually reads pretty well!

Now the critical part of this endeavor is to tweak it.

You can use a variety of follow-up prompts that allow you to change the mood or the length.

The choice is literally up to you.

Takeaways

ChatGPT won’t ever generate a perfect outreach message, but what this prompt does is ensure that it gets most of the job done – which is getting the writing down.

When you have most of the text down, it becomes easier for you to jump in and make your own personal changes.

If you’re up for a challenge or you’re experiencing a little writer’s block, this prompt makes it easy for you to get inspiration for the possible structure of your PR outreach.

Whatever it is you do, make sure you add your own personal touch to the output.

That’s what makes this prompt very effective.
