Outreach doesn’t come easy to all of us.

It’s difficult to craft messages, create a connection, and find similar ground.

But you know what helps?

Having a mutual connection.

But, wait up!

How about the messaging?

Well, we have our pal ChatGPT to help us with that.

In today’s guide, we’ll show you how you can do LinkedIn outreach with mutual connections using ChatGPT.

Now doesn’t make your outreach sound easier?

The truth is outreach is difficult because you need to find common ground with the person you’re reaching out to.

If you’re doing cold outreach, it gets even harder because you need to convince a person who’s never heard of you and build trust.

This is why a lot of work goes into awareness campaigns, building social proof, and getting people to notice your brand or organization, even before the first message.

In this particular use case, you already have some – albeit very little – common ground with the prospect, through the use of a mutual connection.

This makes it easier for you to leverage that fact into making a conversation with them

By the way, before you get started, make sure you’re already connected with the prospect on LinkedIn. If you find that you’re not, you can use one of our handy prompts in the link below to make a connection – using ChatGPT, of course!

Our Prompt for LinkedIn Outreach with Mutual Connections using ChatGPT

Here’s the comprehensive prompt that we use for outreach.

It’s pretty long please bear with us.

Generate *number of outreach meassages* personalized and engaging outreach messages for my LinkedIn connections.

Each message should start by recognizing our shared connection, *name of mutual connection*. I’d like the messages to convey a warm and authentic tone while showing a sincere interest in the recipient’s professional journey. They also have to be *length of message*.

Incorporate this specific detail from the recipient’s profile: *something about the prospect*

Let’s emphasize the strong alignment between our shared commitment to *something you have in common* and my background as *what is your background about*. Showcase my unique value proposition (USP), which centers around *what is your USP* and how it can contribute to their goals.

Throughout the message, it’s important to reflect my enthusiasm for collaboration and learning from fellow professionals. Let’s show that I’m genuinely excited about meeting with them and that we’re aligned.

End the message with a warm and inviting call-to-action that encourages them to share their thoughts or insights. Be polite and respectful, and keep it mind LinkedIn’s guidelines for messaging.

The prompt starts off with clear-cut instructions on what it’s trying to achieve, we suggest loading up at least 4 outreach messages so you have a couple to choose from. For us, we usually stick in 10 to have a good pool together.

Next up you have the inclusion of the name of the common contact as well as some details of the overall theme of the messages that it will be generating for you. We chose to keep it warm and concise while allowing it to be authentic. This is to make sure that it is applicable to a variety of people.

You can also add the length of the message in the section.

Following that up, you need to do a little research – essentially visiting their LinkedIn and pulling up a fact about them that ChatGPT can use to create a message.

Then we add the USP, this is integral because it gives the prospect a reason to meet up with you. Without this, your message doesn’t have a purpose, so make sure you work on this part of the prompt.

It also gives ChatGPT the chance to align you and your prospect adding more to the common ground that in the USP that you bring to the table. Furthermore, it also delves into your background allowing for some more social proof.

Lastly, we have your ending instructions which are basically reminders for ChatGPT to keep things light, and genuine and abide by LinkedIn’s messaging rules.

So let’s see the results.

The Output

For the sample output on ChatGPT, we decided to go with our usual template and used generic client details that you’ll find below.

Also, note that we went for shorter messages to keep them fun.

Generate 10 personalized and engaging outreach messages for my LinkedIn connections.

Each message should start by recognizing our shared connection, Mr. Business5000. I’d like the messages to convey a warm and authentic tone while showing a sincere interest in the recipient’s professional journey. They also have to be short and concise.

Incorporate this specific detail from the recipient’s profile: they are in the B2B SaaS sector and have won awards.

Let’s emphasize the strong alignment between our shared commitment to B2B marketing and my background as a digital marketing expert. Showcase my unique value proposition (USP), which centers around lead generation and qualification and how it can contribute to their goals.

Here’s what we got.

As you can see, given that we limited everything to short messages, they’ve turned out a little punchy – which often works on a platform like LinkedIn.

However, you can always tweak this in the prompt and make each message longer.

For example.

Takeaways

As with all of our prompts at BAMF, there is one major way to make them better.

And that’s to add your personal touch to it.

This means going into each prompt, adding your own touches, and making sure that your output is also tweaked to your desired messaging.

It allows you to have more personalization – and that’s what wins deals.

AI is only as good as the person wielding it.

So it needs you as much as you need it.
